2012 Tony Nominations for Arena Stage Favorites!

The nominations for the 2012 Tony Awards were announced this morning and among the surprises and standouts, a number of artists, directors and designers who have previously worked at Arena Stage were on the roster! Check out the list of Arena favorites below and congratulations to all of the nominees!

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play

James Earl Jones for Gore Vidal's The Best Man (original member of the Arena Stage company; previous Arena productions include The Great White Hope, 1968)

Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical

Phillip Boykin for The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess (previous Arena productions include Crowns, 2009)

Best Direction of a Play

Pam Mackinnon for Clybourne Park (previous Arena productions include A Delicate Balance, 2009, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, 2011) 

Best Costume Design of a Play

Paul Tazewell for A Streetcar Named Desire (previous Arena productions include The Caucasian Chalk Circle, 1990)

Best Costume Design of a Musical

ESosa for The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess (previous Arena productions include Ruined, 2011, Cuttin' Up, 2005, and Señor Discretion Himself, 2004) 

Martin Packledinaz for Nice Work if You Can Get It (previous Arena productions include Oklahoma!, 2010)
