“You stand in for him every single day, you’ve done it for years. You clean up his messes, you make excuses, you do his job, and then you wake up and do it all over again.”
— Jean, POTUS

When the Commander-in-Chief publicly calls his wife a “See You Next Tuesday,” all H-E-Double Hockey Sticks breaks loose!

A searingly funny Broadway hit that will be staged in-the-round at Arena this fall, POTUS—hailed as a “rough-and-tumble feminist comedy” by The New York Times—follows how seven women of dramatically different backgrounds minimize the damage done by male arrogance and political posturing, in an endearing homage to the women who keep things running behind the scenes.

In fact, playwright Selina Fillinger begins her script for POTUS with a dedication, which reads, “For Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Hillary Clinton, Shirley Chisholm…and every other woman who’s ever found herself the secondary character in a male farce.” And thus begins the farce that is POTUS or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive.

Fillinger sat down with NPR’s Jeff Lunden during POTUS’ Broadway premiere
in April 2022 to discuss the play’s origins. Have a listen

POTUS doesn’t focus on any one administration; it certainly feels universal. Because in every administration, it seems the most interesting characters are the women who have saved the person who’s in the number one chair…time and time again.

POTUS will step up to the podium in the Fichandler Stage from October 13 to November 12, 2023 (just in time for off-year election season!). Get your tickets now!
